Logitech’s New G Cloud Gaming Handheld ready to arrive in October

After a teaser and a disclosure last month, Logitech made its G Cloud Gaming Handheld official announcement on September, 21. The $349.99 Android-powered handheld with access to the Google Play Store, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Nvidia’s GeForce. Now service will be available in North America starting on October 17. Even though you’ll be able to play Android mobile games, the handheld was designed with cloud gaming in mind and had a battery life of 12 hours or more.

Features in the new model

Similar to the jewel on an Xbox controller, the Logitech G button launches a submenu that lets you stop or end games. Simply pressing the home button will return you to the Logitech interface. Like the majority of contemporary controllers, there are also two bumper buttons and two trigger buttons. The portable device from Logitech also has a gyroscope, haptics, and remappable controls.

Enhanced Display

The seven-inch 1080p IPS touchscreen on the Cloud Gaming Handheld offers a 60Hz refresh rate, a 16:9 aspect ratio, and a 1080p resolution. The white handheld has a D-pad, Y, B, A, and X buttons in addition to two offset analogue thumbsticks. Additionally, there are four buttons at the front: a context menu button, Logitech G, home, and menu.

Faster Processer with addition of SD card and Bluetooth

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor, an octa-core CPU with a maximum clock speed of 2.3GHz, is what Logitech is using. 64GB of UFS storage and 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM are available. The device can be charged using a single USB-C 3.1 port, and the 6,000mAh battery should be fully charged in around 2.5 hours.

Additionally, Logitech has given a microSD card for expansion, but since neither 5G nor a SIM card is supported, you’ll always need to be close to Wi-Fi if you want to play cloud games. With its 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.1 with Qualcomm’s aptXTM Adaptive compatibility, and a USB-C port that can be used for both music and charging, the device will also provide you a variety of methods to connect your audio devices.

More Battery Life

The device’s lightweight design and guarantee of a battery life of more than 12 hours are what really appeal to users. The Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck are both wider than the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld, which weighs only 463 grammes (1 pound). In comparison to the Steam Deck (669 grams/1.47 pounds), it is slightly heavier than the Switch (322 grams/ 0.71 pounds).

Logitech collaboration with Microsoft and Nvidia

To incorporate Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia’s GeForce Now service into the handheld, Logitech collaborated with Microsoft and Nvidia. The Xbox Cloud Gaming app is merely a basic Progressive Web App (PWA), so there isn’t really a computed value with the device, but the Switch-like UI will let you launch each service.

In order to design the Android launcher, Logitech collaborated with Tencent on this portable and benefited from its software development know-how. If you wish to utilise this launcher outside of gaming, Logitech offers a portable mode with its game launcher and a traditional Android tablet launcher mode. Along with Xbox Cloud Gaming, Nvidia’s GeForce Now, and Valve’s Steam Link, preloaded apps include Chrome, YouTube, and Nvidia’s GeForce Now.

Although this portable can play select Android games thanks to the Android support, Logitech is promoting it for cloud gaming. Since mobile gamers often want to retrieve their games when travelling by bus, train, or aeroplane where internet connectivity is unreliable, that represents a new market for handheld consoles. The Logitech G handheld requires continual proximity to a Wi-Fi signal, which might lessen its attractiveness.

By limiting the release of the G Cloud Gaming Handheld to the US and Canada in October, Logitech seems to be testing the market. A limited $299.99 preorder deal is available before the retail price of $349.99 to incentivize new buyers.  You can buy it from Logitech’s website or Amazon or eBay.
