New features added by Google for maps, search and shopping

The introduction of numerous new Maps, Search, and Shopping services was announced by Google today. The majority of the new capabilities were debuted by the business at its Search On event in September, and they are now beginning to be made available to consumers.

Maps

Google Maps may make navigating this busy season less stressful, whether you’re running errands, visiting new locations with friends, or going to visit relatives. Just in time for the holidays, Google has also released three upgrades that will assist you in exploring and getting around.

With the use of artificial intelligence, millions of Street View photographs, and augmented reality, Google released search with Live View in September, allowing you to explore your surroundings more naturally. This visual search experience will roll out on Android and iOS starting the following week in London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, San Francisco, and Tokyo.

“Say you’re visiting Florida with plans to knock out your holiday shopping and catch up with friends. Lift your phone and tap on the camera icon in the search bar to see nearby stores and other places like coffee shops, banks and ATMs. With AR-powered directions and arrows, you can see what direction they’re in and how far away they are — and even spot places that aren’t in your immediate view (like a clothing store around the block) to get a true sense of the neighborhood at a glance.” says Google.

You can tap on categories to discover nearby parks, restaurants, pubs, dessert stores, and transit stops if you’re looking for other locations. Users will be able to see important details about each site, such as if it’s busy, open, what the price range is, etc., contained on top of the location information.

You may already be using Google Maps to locate charging stations and obtain up-to-date information about chargers nearby if you drive an electric vehicle. Finding the finest charging station for your automobile is now even simpler. You can find stations with 50kW or greater chargers by searching for “EV charging stations” and selecting the “fast charge” filter. This will allow you to charge your vehicle more quickly. To ensure that you only see stations with plugs compatible with your car, you can filter for stations that offer your EV’s plug type in additional nations. In nations where EV charging stations are available, these functionalities are currently operational on Android and iOS.

The “accessible places” feature, which Google first introduced in 2020 in the U.S., Australia, Japan, and the U.K., is now being expanded globally. The function is intended to make it easier for users to assess whether a location is wheelchair accessible. You can enable the “accessible places” setting in the app to view wheelchair icons on locations that are accessible for wheelchair users. You can check to see if a location has parking, restrooms, and seating that is accessible. According to Google, the feature can also be useful if you wish to avoid stairs because you are using a cart or a stroller.

Shopping

Shopping in a store is unique because of the atmosphere, colours, and sounds. Although we are unable to experience all of these minute aspects when buying online, Google is making significant advancements to AR shopping on Google in order to bring the product to life.

The new AR shopping tool that Google released today makes it much simpler to locate the right foundation for you. “Developed with guidance from beauty brands, our new photo library features 148 models representing a diverse spectrum of skin tones, ages, genders, face shapes, ethnicities and skin types.” Google stated. This library, powered by Google technology, is a significant step toward transforming how people buy for makeup online by making it easier for you to see how various products will look on you.

Just search for the name of the foundation you want. After that to help you choose the one that works best for you, you will see how that foundation looks on models with skin tones comparable to your own, including before and after photos.

You can now shop for sneakers using AR. You may now spin, zoom, and view the shoes in your area as you determine whether the colour, lace pattern, tread, or sole suit your taste. You can start looking into products from companies like Saucony, VANS, and Merrell now, and more will be available soon. Just type in “View in my space” after you search and select for a specific sneaker.

Users will now be able to use Search to locate their preferred food at a nearby restaurant as of today. For instance, you can look up local eateries that provide beef lasagna by searching “beef lasagne.” Once you’ve located the food you’re looking for, you can learn more about it, including its cost, ingredients, and other details.

You may utilise Google’s multi-search capability to locate certain foods close to you thanks to yet another new Search feature. Let’s say you stumble upon a tasty-looking item online, but you have no idea what it is or where to get it. You can now take a screenshot or take a picture of a meal in the Google app for Android or iOS and add the words “near me” to identify a location that offers it close by using Lens.
