Xbox app on PC ready to get big updates in 2023

Xbox app on PC

The Xbox App for PC is about to get an upgrade, as Phil Spencer recently mentioned in an interview with Same Brain Podcast that the gaming programme will soon receive a significant boost.

Phil Spencer hinted at an upcoming PC update when discussing the next games from Xbox Game Studios that would be released in 2023. Sadly, the CEO of Xbox made no mention of this planned upgrade to the Xbox App, although calling it a “major” update may imply that it would provide new functionality or at the very least fix some of the strange errors that plague the programme, particularly with pre-loading games. “We are doing a lot more work on PC because I think PC is important,” said Spencer. “We have a big update to our Xbox App that’s actually coming in a couple of weeks.”

Prior to this, Microsoft implemented a highly requested feature that allowed users to select where to install a game before pressing the Xbox App’s download button. The Xbox App on PC seems significantly smoother than it did before thanks to the improvements released so far this year. There are, however, some minor problems that could be problematic, such as the challenges that some gamers encounter when attempting to link their Xbox App account with an EA App account in order to access EA Play games via the PC Game Pass subscription.

Microsoft is also working on a redesign for the Xbox Series X|S UI, which is scheduled to release in 2023, in addition to the Xbox App for PC. Recently, several insiders had the opportunity to preview Microsoft’s new Home UI for Xbox consoles, which does resemble the console’s previous UI somewhat.

Also anticipated is mouse and keyboard compatibility for xCloud games in the forthcoming Xbox App version. At this time, using a controller is the only way to play Game Pass games on a PC via xCloud. Spencer affirmed that following Activision-acquisition Blizzard’s by Microsoft, Call of Duty will continue to be available on PlayStation.
