iPhone 14 pro and pro max production slows down by Covid outbreak in Zhengzhou

According to a Nov. 6 notice from Apple, Covid limitations have affected a significant assembly plant in Zhengzhou that produces the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. According to the announcement, the Foxconn facility is “currently operating at significantly reduced capacity.”

Longer delivery periods for customers are anticipated as a result of Apple’s projection of a persistently high demand for iPhone Pro models and delayed distribution of the two Pro versions. “We continue to see strong demand for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models,” Apple says. “However, we now expect lower iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max shipments than we previously anticipated and customers will experience longer wait times to receive their new products.”

China increased a similar ban imposed on the region last month by ordering a seven-day lockdown of the area surrounding Foxconn’s main plant in Zhengzhou. The assembly line is where the majority of Apple’s devices are made and employs roughly 200,000 people. Four out of every five iPhones from the current generation are made at the Foxconn-owned facility.

Like many businesses, Apple has spent more than two years figuring out how to continue shipping its products despite a disruption in the global supply chain. According to a Reuters article from October, the severe covid limitations affecting Foxconn might cause a drop in iPhone manufacturing of at least 30%.

The business started producing the base iPhone 14 model in India in September after already beginning to relocate some production away from China. “The facility is currently operating at significantly reduced capacity. As we have done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we are prioritizing the health and safety of the workers in our supply chain,” states Apple.
