Oppo has been working on a foldable phone for a while, but they were not happy with the results for them to release a device publicly. Oppos chief product officer Pete Lau told reporters in a briefing, that they have been working on a foldable phone since 2018. We also saw some of the patents and photographs of prototypes in 2021 but nothing ever took place. Well, that is about to change.
On 16/12/2021 Oppo revealed the Oppo Find N, its first flagship foldable. Find N the result of six generations of internal development, four years of research and development.
The Find N features a very similar design to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, however, it is nothing like the Z fold, apart from the screen folding being the same motion. The Oppo Find N has a 5.49-inch Full HD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, with the screen unfolded you get a 7.1-inch Oled display with 120Hz LTPO, 1,000 nits peak brightness, and 8.4:9 aspect ratio.
The screen itself is a Samsung-made panel, but Oppo says it has been customized and holds its own patents. The screen is protected by UTG (ultra-thin glass.) Oppo rates it for 200,000 fold in other words 5.5 years of folding. Oppo claims the crease on the new phone will be 80% less visible. They were able to achieve these numbers thanks to their new hinge design. The new design allows the screen to be rest in the hinge in a waterdrop-shaped fold. Where the screen is not fully folded but instead resting. One of its kind.

Oppo Find N will be using an older Snapdragon 888. Opposed to the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, or the existing Snapdragon 888 Plus. Oppo explained that this is due to the longer four-year R&D ( Research & Development) of this phone. To be very fair, this 5G chipset from Snapdragon is more than enough to get day-to-day tasks done. The phone comes with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 Storage, with the ColorOS 12 based on Android 11.
The phone is 275G light and infused a 50-megapixel f/1.8 main camera (Sony IMX766 sensor; same as the Find X 3 Pro), a 16-megapixel (Sony IMX481) f/2.2 ultra-wide camera, a 13-megapixel (Samsung S5K3M5) f/2.2 2x telephoto camera on the back, and a 32-megapixel (Sony IMX615) f/2.4 punch-hole selfie camera on both the external and inner screens. It is housing a 4,500 mAH battery that supports 33W SuperVOOC rapid charging. 15W airVOOC wireless charging, the phone can also be used for 10W reverse charging.
Unlocking the phone is done with a side-mounted fingerprint-scanning power button, rather than an under-display fingerprint reader. On the other hand, it does make sense as it will be another task to fit a fingerprint sensor under a large flexible screen.
The find N comes in white, black, and purple, with the purple offering being exclusive to its higher-end model. In China, the phone is available for pre-ordering ahead of its December 23rd launch.

Sadly these affordable prices do not bring any joy to people outside of China, as the phone will be China-exclusive for now.
